Sand Creek Right Bank Tributaries
The Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, in partnership with the City of Aurora, have initiated an Outfall Systems Plan to assess the existing drainage capacity along the right bank of Sand Creek and provide analysis and recommendations for future stormwater infrastructure improvements. Merrick & Company was selected to complete this project.
The Sand Creek Right Bank Tributaries OSP study area consists of approximately 8.0 square miles with a variety of land uses. The majority of study area is located in Adams County with a large portion south of Colfax Avenue within Arapahoe County. The study area is roughly bounded by Sand Creek to the south, I-225 to the west, E-470 to the east and the Sand Creek/Irondale Gulch basin divide to the north. Notable landmarks within the Sand Creek Right Bank Tributaries watershed include the Highline Canal, Aurora Sports Park, I-70, I-225, E-470, and Colfax Avenue. Overall, flow within the watershed flows South and West where it outfalls to Sand Creek.
Within the study area, many of the existing storm conveyance systems are undersized, causing potential flooding along major highways and roadways.
