Grow With Purpose

At Merrick, employee development is not a one-size-fits-all program or a checklist for advancement. It’s an intentional, long-term commitment shaped by employee owners who care deeply about their work, their growth, and the future of the company.

Because Merrick is employee-owned, we invest in development that strengthens both individual careers and the organization as a whole. From formal learning programs to employee-led initiatives, Merrick provides many ways for people to learn, lead, and grow — whether they’re early in their careers or preparing for future leadership roles.

Employee Engagement Committees

Merrick’s employee engagement committees are created and led by employee owners. These groups exist because employees saw opportunities to make Merrick a better place to work — and were empowered to act on those ideas.

Committees focus on areas such as peer mentorship; diversity, equity, and inclusion; professional development; culture; and knowledge sharing, reflecting a bottom-up approach to shaping Merrick’s culture.

Current committees include:

  • Our Merrick Council
  • Employee Ownership
  • Merrick Education Lunch (MEL) Talks
  • Merrick Gives Back
  • Merrick Internship Program
  • Merrick Professional Women’s Roundtable (MPWR)
  • Merrick Way Awards
  • MOSAIC
  • Peer Mentoring Program

Employee Development Programs

These programs form the foundation of how Merrick supports learning, growth, and career progression.

The Merrick Learning Institute is the foundation of Merrick’s formal development programs. MLI brings together technical training, leadership development, and business education into a coordinated learning experience designed to grow well-rounded professionals.

Programs include:

  • Leadership Development
  • Merrick Business Program
  • Client Development Program
  • Supervisor and people-leader training

A defining feature of MLI is its use of action learning teams. Participants apply what they learn by working on real projects that address opportunities within Merrick, ensuring development translates into practical impact.

Merrick actively builds clear career paths across roles and disciplines to help employees understand how they can grow. These paths define both technical skills and professional competencies, such as learning focus, client focus, and emotional intelligence.

Employees are encouraged to work with their supervisors to set development goals that align with both personal aspirations and business needs — reinforcing Merrick’s long-term approach to career growth.

Merrick supports continued learning through an education reimbursement program for employees pursuing higher education, professional certifications, or licenses.

Combined with internal training, mentoring, and peer learning opportunities, employees have multiple avenues to build skills and expand their expertise throughout their careers.

The Merrick Way Awards

The Merrick Way Awards recognize employee owners who demonstrate Merrick’s core values: Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence (RISE). Through a peer-nomination process, employees can recognize colleagues whose actions reflect these values in meaningful ways.

Awards are given throughout the year and shared companywide, reinforcing the behaviors and mindset that define Merrick’s culture. The program celebrates everyday leadership and the positive impact employees have on one another, our clients, and the company as a whole.
