Build Skills That Last Beyond the Classroom

Merrick’s summer internship program offers meaningful, hands-on experience for students majoring in fields related to engineering, architecture, geospatial, surveying, science and technology, or support services. Designed as a shorter-term, exploratory experience, internships allow students to apply what they’re learning in school while gaining exposure to real projects, professional collaboration, and day-to-day life at an employee-owned company.

Each year, Merrick matches our summer paid interns with meaningful project work, dedicated mentors, and a clear support structure that helps interns learn, contribute, and grow with confidence — while providing a strong foundation for future career paths.

Our internships are designed for students who want real responsibility, practical experience, and exposure to professional work that matters.

How the Internship Program Works

Learn how the program is structured, how interns are supported and selected, and what opportunities come next.

Merrick interns are fully integrated into project teams and supported throughout the program. Interns are paired with a mentor and a supervisor who provide guidance, answer questions, and help connect day-to-day work to larger project goals.

Each intern also has access to an intern coordinator and hiring manager who help ensure clear expectations, regular check-ins, and meaningful learning opportunities. Interns work on real assignments that build technical skills, professional confidence, and an understanding of how projects move from concept to completion.

We offer internships in the following categories:

  • Accounting
  • Architecture
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Geospatial Solutions
  • Human Resources
  • Interior Design
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Process/Chemical Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Sustainability/Commissioning Engineering
  • Survey
  • Water Resources

As you explore the engineering and architecture industry, you’ll gain hands-on experience, build professional relationships, and contribute to real client work. Interns are paid and enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • Professional training and skill development
  • Flexible work hours and paid holidays
  • Real work on real client projects
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Weekly training meetings, including “Meet the CEO and President”

How the Process Works
Candidates apply through Merrick’s online portal and are reviewed by hiring managers and team members. Interviews focus on curiosity, a learning mindset, collaboration, and interest in contributing to real work — not just coursework or prior experience. Intern candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or master’s program with a major directly related to the internship they are applying for; graduation must be after the conclusion of the internship.

Merrick’s internship program is designed as a long-term investment in people. Interns gain real-world experience, professional mentorship, and exposure to Merrick’s employee-owned culture.

Many interns continue working part-time during the school year, deepening their experience while completing their education. For many, an internship at Merrick becomes the first step toward a full-time role after graduation.
