Solms Water Pump Station and Ground Storage Tank
Expanding Water Capacity for a Growing Community
Rapid growth in New Braunfels, Texas, created an urgent need to expand water storage and pumping capacity to support reliable service across the utility’s system. Existing infrastructure could not accommodate the required expansion, prompting New Braunfels Utilities (NBU) to develop a new pump station and ground storage tank at a separate site. The project also needed to integrate visually and functionally with NBU’s new headquarters, located on the same property and designed concurrently.
Merrick served as prime consultant, providing facility planning, design, bidding, and construction support for a new 4.3. million gallon per day (MGD) water pump station and a 1.0 million gallon ground storage tank. The team designed a prestressed wire‑wrapped concrete tank, pump station, and a building housing pumps and control systems with architectural elements coordinated to match the adjacent headquarters. Close collaboration with NBU and the headquarters design team helped identify interface points early, maintain consistent appearance of structures, tank, and fencing, and deliver the project in alignment with the new headquarters.
Through consistent coordination with city, county, and state stakeholders, Merrick delivered infrastructure that expands and strengthens system capacity while supporting long‑term operational needs and future growth.
