Delivering an Integrated Water & Wastewater Reuse System for a Growing Community
Merrick provided integrated water and wastewater system planning, design, and permitting for Mayfield Springs, a 750‑acre master‑planned community supporting more than 2,300 homes and commercial development in a severely water‑limited region of Idaho. With no surface water sources and limited groundwater availability, the project required a closed-loop approach to sustainably manage both water supply and wastewater treatment.
Located in an arid upland ecosystem, Mayfield Springs required a reliable water system to meet domestic, irrigation, commercial, and fire protection demands. Merrick designed a resilient supply and distribution system that combines deep groundwater wells with reclaimed wastewater effluent, reducing dependence on limited natural resources while supporting long-term growth.
Merrick also designed a membrane bioreactor (MBR)-based wastewater resource recovery facility that treats 100% of effluent to Class A recycled water standards. Treated water is reused for landscape irrigation and groundwater recharge, creating a sustainable wastewater solution in a region with no surface water disposal options. In addition, Merrick led reuse permitting, fate and transport modeling, and design of key treatment, disinfection, reuse pumping, and solid handling systems.
This integrated, reuse‑driven approach provides Mayfield Springs with a resilient water future—supporting future development while maximizing the value of every drop of available water.
